Haddington is located amongst rich farmland between the Garleton Hills and the
Lammermuir Hills (which border the Southern Uplands). It was created a Royal Burgh
sometime after the accession of David I in 1124 and became an iimportant religious centre
on the pilgrim's route between St. Andrews and Santiago de Compostella in Spain.

St Mary's is the largest parish chuch in Scotland and has a beautiful setting on the
banks of the river Tyne. Beside the church is Lady Kitty's garden which is also worth
visiting. The gallery is within a few hundred yards of both attractions.
